Escape to Carna – A Truly Unique Scottish Island Experience
A Hidden Gem in Loch Sunart
There are many Scottish islands, but none quite like Carna. This historic 600-acre island, nestled in the rich coastal waters of Loch Sunart, offers an unparalleled escape from modern life. With only three houses, no roads, no traffic, Carna is the perfect place to disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with nature, family, friends, or even yourself.
A Place Steeped in History & Nature
Carna sits between the Ardnamurchan and Morvern peninsulas on Scotland’s west coast. Though today known for its peace and seclusion, the island's history dates back nearly a billion years! The landscape is a stunning mosaic of wildflower meadows, birchwoods, pinewoods, and ancient Atlantic oak forests, alongside moorlands, peatlands, and hidden coves.
Home to a rich array of wildlife, Carna is a haven for otters, eagles, butterflies, and rare orchids. Every visit supports our conservation projects, ensuring the island's biodiversity thrives for future generations.
The Carna Experience
Carna offers a true Highland welcome, hosted by a small, family-run team of the island’s owners, local businesses, and community members. With no roads and just an old Land Rover for luggage transport, your only companions will be the gentle sea breeze, lapping waves, and the calls of wildlife.
Explore the island’s remote ridges, hidden woodlands, and deserted shorelines, or scale the 170m (550ft) summit for spectacular views over the surrounding lochs, peninsulas, and the open Atlantic Ocean.
