Set in the beautiful West Coast of Scotland - Rowanhill is an attractive, traditionally stone built and rough cast two-storey self catering cottage with three twin bedrooms in its own garden beside the River Shiel and Loch Shiel, down a 'no through road' near Acharacle, Ardnamurchan, Argyll.

Rowanhill lies beside the very minor road serving the crofting area of Moss about two miles from the centre of the thriving village of Acharacle which is served by two hotels, a post office and tearoom, an excellent village store with all provisions, a bakery, fish and chip shop, and an Outdoors shop.

The sandy beaches at Ardtoe are about 30 minutes drive and the beach at Dorlin with the commanding presence of Castle Tioram is only 10 minutes drive from Rowanhill Cottage.

Castle Tioram is the fourteenth century stronghold of the MacDonalds of Clanranald with a wealth of Scottish history behind its crumbling ramparts burnt in the Jacobite Rising of 1715.

River Shiel is a very beautiful west coast river with a surprising number and variety of named pools. Fishing from the bank, by wading, and from the stages especially around the House Pool, can be productive along the whole length of the river from The Loch Point at Loch Shiel to The Sea Pool and Cairn Pool at Loch Moidart.

The River Shiel drains the fresh-water Loch Shiel to the sea-water Loch Moidart.
Loch Shiel is over 20 miles long flowing from beside the Jacobite monument at Glenfinnan in the north through spectacular mountain scenery to the start of the River Shiel only quarter of a mile from Rowanhill. The river flows past Rowanhill and under the new and old bridges through beautiful countryside for about 3 miles before plunging over a spectacular waterfall into the sea loch which at high tide fills the waterfall and dams the river.

Fishing in the River Shiel is organised by the owners of the opposite banks in a two-beat system fishing both banks of the upper part and then the lower part of the river for half a day each. A catch and release policy has been adopted.
Salmon and sea-trout fishing normally starts in May and ends at the end of September. However early fish are very occasionally seen in April.
By prior arrangement with the owners of Rowanhill, fishing on the river is occasionally available by the week for up to 5 rods per day.
